China Self- Drive Tour from Irkstan to Erenhot

Day 1 Enter China from Irkstan - Kashgar

Enter China from Irkastan. After dealing with related procedures, drive to Kashgar.

 

Day 2 Kashgar

In the morning we’ll visit Sunday Bazzar, which is renowned as the biggest market in Central Asia. It is actually active everyday but Sunday is the special day for sellers and buyers and the most busy and lively day for a visit. After that we will visit Id Kah Mosque and Abakh Hoja Tomb.

 

Day 3 Kashgar - Yecheng (Karghilik)

Kashgar is famous for the winding narrow streets of its historic old town. This morning we will pay a visit to Old Town. Old town demonstrates a fascinating architectural style of mud built houses with supporting wooden beams and beautifully carved wooden ceilings. In the afternoon, we will drive 251 km to Yecheng.

 

Day 4 Yecheng (Karghilik) - Hotan (Hetian)

It takes 246 km drive from Yecheng to Maza. We will visit along the way.

 

Day 5 Hotan (Hetian) - Niya (Mingfeng)

Today we will drive 305 km to Niya, which is the start of the famous Cross-Desert Hwy of Taklamkan Desert. Or we could drive a little further in to the desert and see the beautiful sunset in the desert.

 

Day 6 Niya - Luntai

Today we will cross the biggest desert in China, Taklamakan Desert. Cross-Desert Hwy is 560 km. Prepare enough water and food. Just in the middle of the Hwy, you might get some simple food or water, like as instant noodles.

 

Day 7 Luntai - Korla (Kuerle) - Turpan

Today we will drive to the most exotic city along the Silk Road, Turpan.

 

Day 8 Turpan

Today we will visit Jiaohe Ruins, which is also called Yarkhoto. It’s one of the world’s largest best preserved ancient cities. In the afternoon, we will visit Kanerz Well. The Karez Water System Folkways Paradise is located at the Ya'er country in Turpan city, 3 kilometers away from the city Turban, and 2 kilometers away from the 312 national highway in the south. This irrigation system of wells connected by underground channels is considered to be one of the three great ancient projects in China. Grape Valley is a must see in Turpan. With its shady vineyards and trees, this provides a welcome place of relaxation amidst the hundreds of square miles of sand. Taking a walk along the grape corridor, you will find drying rooms on nearby slopes.

 

Day 9 Turpan - Hami

Today we will visit the oldest Uygur village, Maza Village in Tuyuq valley. After 380 km drive, when we quite near Hami, we will pay a visit to Hami King Tomb.

 

Day 10 Hami - Dunhuang

Drive to Dunhuang in the morning. It’s about 400 km. In the afternoon, we will visit Mogao Caves. Constructed over a millennium, from the 4th to the 14th centuries, the caves hold the world's richest treasure house of Buddhist sutras, murals and sculptures.

 

Day 11 Dunhuang - Zhangye

Today we will drive to Jiayuguan by expressway, which is 383 km and takes about 4.5 hours, and visit Jiayuguan Fort. It is one of the classic images of western China. After that, we will continue drive 243 km to Zhangye by expressway.

 

Day 12 Zhangye - Xining

After visit Zhangye Dafo Temple, we will drive ahead to Xining. It’s about 350 km. Today we will enter Qinghai-Tibetan plateau. You could see typical plateau breathtaking view, blue sky, bright sunshine, thousands of goats and yaks dotted on the grassland and, of course, lovely Tibetan people.

 

Day 13 Xining - Qinhaihu Lake

In the morning, we will drive 50 km to Taer Monastery, which is one of the six holy monasteries of Yellow Section of Tibetan Buddhism. And then we will drive directly to Qinghaihu Lake. It is the largest salty lake in China. Although it’s a lake, sometimes you will feel it looks like a sea.

 

Day 14 Qinghaihu - Xining - Lanzhou

After Drive 390 km to Lanzhou. The rest time is at leisure.

 

Day 15 Lanzhou - Tianshui

Drive 330 km to Tianshui, and visit Maijishan Grottos in the afternoon.

 

Day 16 Tianshui - Xi’an

Today we will drive 395 km to Xi’an. In the afternoon, we will cycle on the Ancient City Wall. It's the most complete city wall that has survived in China, as well being one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. Wander in Muslim Quarter. When evening lights are lit, the night market starts! Just enjoy yourself!

 

Day 17 Xi’an

Surely Terracotta Warriors is our first destination. It is the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century. It was listed by UNESCO in 1987 as one of the world cultural heritages. The museum covers an area of 16,300 square meters, divided into three sections: No. 1 Pit, No. 2 Pit, and No. 3 Pit respectively. This afternoon, we will visit the Shanxi Historical Museum, which is one of the 3 best historical museums in China.

 

Day 18 Xi’an - Pingyao

Today is an absolute driving day. We will drive 570 km to Pingyao by expressway.

 

Day 19 Pingyao - Datong

After breakfast, we will visit the Ping Yao Old Town. Paralleling Xian, Nanjing and Lijiang, Pingyao is one of time-honored cities that have survived with its ancient walls, a best example from the Ming Dynasty. And then we will drive 380 km to Datong.

 

Day 20 Datong - Great Wall

Get up early in the morning, and visit the Yungang Caves. It’s on e of China’s most superlative examples of Buddhist cave art. After that, we will drive to visit the Great Wall.

 

Day 21 Great Wall - Beijing

After breakfast, we will drive ahead to Beijing. Visit Forbidden City in the afternoon. Built between 1406-1420, it is the largest palace of the world complex covering 74 hectares. It has 9999 halls and rooms in which emperors lived for over 500 hundred years in Ming and Qing dynasties.

 

Day 22 Beijing

Today we are free birds in Beijing. You could visit the scenic spots, wander in Hutong or drink in a bar. Have fun!

 

Day 23 Beijing - Erenhot

It’s another long driving day. We will drive about 698 km. But the lucky thing is the road is good.

 

Day 24 Erenhot

Spare day.

 

Day 25 Exit China

Exit China from Erenhot to Mongolia.
